Talk Descriptions

Blueprint - Hooks for the Backend by Steven Wexler

The frontend underwent a revolution fueled by reactive coding patterns. Apply the same thinking to your backend to challenge the dated REST API default convention. In this talk I will explore Blueprint, a reactive, hook based web-server, and the underlying technologies Server-Sent Events and WebSockets.

I Am Open Source (And So Can You!) by Drew Powers

Open Source: you use it daily, and feel like you should contribute. But who has the time! You can just fork a package to fix the bug…right? You’ll contribute at your next job; your current one isn’t supportive! — These are all common excuses that prevent many devs from getting involved in OSS. In this talk we’ll cover how to get started in open source, what separates a good project from a great one, and even talk about how to pitch OSS contributions to your job so you can get paid writing OSS that benefits your dev career.
